"Sydney"

by Author Hunter Hawkins

This charming, affirming story in rhyme takes the age-old tale of "The Ugly Duckling" and flips it on its head to provide a new message: What you look like will never matter more that who you are.

"Hoofbeats In The Heartland "

Exhibition "Hoofbeats in the Heartland" explores the development and impact of mounted warfare in Tennessee during the Civil War.  It is based upon photographs, drawings and art from the Tennessee State Museum's collection.

Created to generate awareness, disseminate knowledge, and to provide an educational opportunity to the citizens of Tennessee, the exhibit explores several themes:  Leaders and Troops, Occupations and the home front, Horses and Mules, Spies/Scouts/Partisans and Guerillas, Battles in Tennessee and Legacy.

The mobility of mounted warfare meant that every county of the state of Tennessee felt the impact of Union and Confederate cavalry blasting across the state as part of either a raiding party, occupation force or guerilla band.  The homefront, usually remote from the battlefield, often became the frontline of the battlefield.
