THE SEARCH
by
Shel Silverstein
I went to find a pot
of gold
That's waiting where
the rainbow ends.
I searched and
searched and searched and searched
And searched and
searched,and then—
There it was, deep
in the grass,
Under an old and
twisty bough.
It's mine, it's
mine, it's mine at last....
What do I search for
now?

Exhibition
showcases events leading up to Tennessee’s

Morrison
Public Library in Morrison, Tennessee presents To
Make Our Voices Heard: Tennessee Women’s Fight for the Vote, a new
traveling exhibition. The exhibition, created in partnership with
the Tennessee State
Museum and the Tennessee
State
Library and Archives, explores the history of the woman’s suffrage movement, Tennessee’s
dramatic vote to ratify the 19th Amendment in
1920, and the years
that followed.
The exhibition is constructed of multiple dynamic
panels, offering guests a touch-free experience of archival images, engaging
stories and introductions to the leaders of the fight for and against the cause
of woman’s suffrage. The stories begin by detailing the early challenges of
racial and gender discrimination and continuing to the organization of African
American and white women’s associations to encourage political engagement.
The Official Committee of the State of Tennessee
Woman Suffrage Centennial
The Official Committee of the State of Tennessee Woman
Suffrage Centennial was created by the appointment of the TN House Speaker and
Lt. Governor and began work in February 2019. Governor Bill Lee declared August
2019 to August 2020 as the Tennessee Woman Suffrage Centennial Year. Under
leadership from the Tennessee General Assembly, the Committee members include
the Tennessee State Library and Archives, the Tennessee State Museum, the
Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Department of Tourist
Development, the Tennessee Historical Commission, the State Historian, and the
Tennessee Historical Society. Learn more at TNWoman100.com.

Never Forget: An Introduction to the Holocaust
"It is
true that the world of a Holocaust victim was
one continuous dehumanizing experience...but I cannot agree with those who only
saw darkness." - Norbert
Friedman, Holocaust survivor
Never Forget: An
Introduction to the Holocaust tells the often complicated and difficult
story of the Holocaust for adults and younger audiences (5th and 6th Grade).
The exhibition asks nine important questions, including "What was Jewish
life like before the Holocaust?" "What happened to the victims?"
and "How did people fight back?" Never Forget features the
story of one Holocaust victim, Norbert Friedman, who survived eleven camps and
eventually immigrated to the United States after the Holocaust.
Never Forget: An
Introduction to the Holocaust encourages us to never forget and to use the
lessons of the Holocaust to be an upstander, not a bystander.
This
project is supported by the Georgia Humanities Council and the
National Endowment for the Humanities and through appropriations from the
Georgia General Assembly.
Funding
for this exhibit was also provided by the Kennesaw State University
Student Assistance for Leadership in Teaching (SALT) program, the Marcus
Foundation, Kennesaw State University, and the generous support of the Kennesaw
State University Museum of History and Holocaust Education patrons.

Smithsonian Institution
Journey Stories Exhibition
From Native Americans to
new American citizens, regardless of our ethnic or racial background, our
nation's history is filled with stories of people leaving everything behind to
reach a new life in another state, across the continent, or even across the ocean.
Based on the
Smithsonian's traveling exhibition of the same name, Journey Stories covers
centuries of American history, and includes important chapters such as Western
expansion and Native American displacement, African American migration from the
Deep South, and important
developments in transportation technology.
For four centuries,
movement, across short distances and far, has shaped America. Our nation's
history is a patchwork of many stories, woven over time from the voyages of
people - voluntary and involuntary - who traveled to build new lives
state-to-state, across the continent, and from around the world.
No matter the country of
origin or reason for coming here, from our earliest days, Americans have been
intensely mobile, and we still are. Travel over roads, rails, rivers, and
trails - even the skies - have shaped our cultural and economic
landscape. In many ways, our Journey Stories define us.

5th Annual Hear Tell Storytellers Fest March 2nd, 2019
Featuring the Story of Dr. Mary Walker the only female Medal of Honor recipient
The Fifth Annual Hear Tell
Storytellers Fest will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, at 10:00 am, at Morrison Public Library, located
at 138
West Maple Street in Morrison, Tennessee. The Hear
Tell Storytellers Fest is a free event with free admission.
This year will feature a
tribute to National Medal of Honor recipients. As March is also Women’s History
Month, the Hear Tell Storytellers Fest will be the story of Dr. Mary Walker,
the only woman to receive the National Medal of Honor.
Dr. Mary Walker will have her
story told by a representative of the Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of
Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga.
The Charles H. Coolidge
National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga is under-going an incredible transformation into
a major destination - a multi-purpose Heritage Center with an expected attendance of more than 70,000 visitors annually. Construction
began in January on the new 19,000 square-foot facility in the Aquarium
Plaza in
downtown Chattanooga. The
Heritage Center will
recognize Chattanooga as the
“Birthplace of the Medal of Honor” and will
honor and preserve the stories of 20 Tennessee Medal of
Honor recipients. Visitors will be able to explore their dramatic
stories through a series of immersive and engaging exhibits. Each experience
will incorporate the innovative and curriculum-approved Medal of Honor
Character Development Program that emphasizes six character traits that embody
the Medal of Honor and its recipients – Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage,
Sacrifice, Integrity, and Commitment.
“The Charles H. Coolidge Medal
of Honor Heritage Center is a celebration for our region. This Heritage Center
not only memorializes the acts of valor demonstrated by the recipients of our
highest military award but educates the next generation about the six character
traits associated with their gallantry, from the First Medals forward,” said
Major General Bill Raines, U.S. Army (Retired) and chairman of the Charles H.
Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center. “This Heritage Center will
provide an educational experience that will inspire you. These Medal of Honor
characteristics can apply in your life whether you are in the school yard or in
the board room.”
The Heritage Center will include
a large permanent gallery with
interactive exhibits on Medal of Honor recipients, dedicated area for traveling
exhibits, two classrooms, and an event space which will support the Veteran
community. In addition, the Center will offer family programming, and special
events.

"Hoofbeats In
The Heartland "
Exhibition "Hoofbeats
in the Heartland" explores the development and impact of mounted warfare in Tennessee during the Civil War.
It is based upon photographs, drawings and art from the Tennessee State Museum's collection.
Created to generate awareness, disseminate knowledge, and to provide an educational
opportunity to the citizens of Tennessee, the exhibit explores several themes: Leaders and
Troops, Occupations and the home front, Horses and Mules, Spies/Scouts/Partisans and Guerillas,
Battles in Tennessee and Legacy.
The mobility
of mounted warfare meant that every county of the state of Tennessee felt the impact of Union and Confederate cavalry
blasting across the state as part of either a raiding party, occupation force or guerilla band.
The homefront, usually remote from the battlefield, often became the frontline of the battlefield.
